On Friday, April 8th a group of 9 Habitat for Humanity members set out on a journey to Harrisburg, PA to work with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area. Upon arrival to the site, they were greeted by Bill and John, the two construction site supervisors for the day, where members got the scoop on what they would be doing for the day.

The first half of the day was spend helping to clean out an old building that used to house a publishing company from the early 1900's, currently being used as Harrisburg Habitat's warehouse. The building was being prepped for sale, the affiliate having a potential buyer of the 1/5 acre property.

Later in the morning the group traveled to a second location, a house that suffered some minor fire damage. The enthusiastic group was excited to tear down walls, ceilings, and plaster in preparation for the house to be remodeled. Despite the surprise snow storm in the middle of April, everyone enjoyed the hard work and fun that the day of volunteering had brought.

Founded in 1986, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area has become a much needed hand up to families that struggle with housing. Partnering with several local businesses, and being driven by volunteers such as us, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area challenges those from all walks of life to join the fight to eliminate substandard housing and develop sustainable communities.
